Welcome to Traverse City and the Grand Traverse Motel! Experience an authentic up north small-town getaway just a block from the stunning Grand Traverse West Bay and a short walk to downtown. GT Motel was built in the 1950s as a one story building just outside of town to provide a budget option to Traverse City’s seasonal visitors. In the 1970s, the motel added a second story with more rooms to accommodate the increase in visitors to our well-situated city. In 2018, the motel transferred ownership for the fourth time since its establishment, continuing GT Motel’s tradition as a family-owned and operated property.
Our motel is located a short walk from downtown Traverse City, where you’ll find everything from our modish Little Fleet –a food truck lot infused with both community and art, a number of brewpubs (find your favorite!), shopping, coffee shops, and plenty of ice cream options. Hit the town, the beach, our haunted commons buildings, or head out to Sleeping Bear Dunes, the Old Mission Peninsula, or the Leelanau Peninsula – Traverse City and the GT Motel is the perfect spot to rest between up north adventures!
